“Fight Against the Plutocrats” blogster Dirk has passed away - Rest in Peace
By Oliver / Cult Punk

Dirk was a writer, an mp3 blogger, punk rock music fanatic, and dedicated spreader-of-the-word for under appreciated bands. Dirk ran the well-named blog Fight Against the Plutocrats which, in a recent “Weekly Punk Blog Roundup” post on this website, I linked to; it had a great archive of scans of old MRR issues and a good G-Zet discography. On August 1st, Dirk passed away, a cancer victim at only 19. He will be sorely missed.
I was subscribed to his blog through an RSS feed. Knowing that it will no longer be updated by him is more than sad. Looking at Dirk’s blog now, and reading his music “Want” list (the “Tokyo Rockers” LP, the “Tokyo’s Burning” LP and plenty of stuff by The Stalin), is almost enough to put a lump in one’s throat. I hope that wherever Dirk is he’s hearing all the music he’s ever wanted to hear.
Dirk was terribly young but one wouldn’t know it from reading his posts. I had no idea he was terribly ill. He never talked about it much; music was what he was all about. His site was an invaluable resource of information. And he was smart, too: “Fight Against the Plutocrats,” the title itself, showed how much he had taken to heart punk’s rebellious attitude against elites and powerful folk who do so much to fuck up our world.
You can leave comments in memory of Dirk at THIS BLOG (”Cities on Flame,” his other blog). His parents have posted there and appreciate any sentiments in the “Comments” area from folks who knew him through his online writings. Below was my post. Of course, when something like this happens, it’s hard to ever say enough.
